My name is Balbir and I have been practising yoga since 1999.

I love Dru Yoga – it has become my ‘lifestyle’ and something I am passionate about sharing through teaching.  Here is my story:

I started yoga after sustaining an injury to my lower back while I was practising martial arts.  At the time I saw the benefit of yoga simply being from the exercises that stretched and strengthened my body.

After I began suffering from aches and pains due to cold weather and damp, I discovered Bikram Yoga which I attended three times a week for almost three years.  Bikram yoga is based on Hatha Yoga and the exercises are carried out in a temperature of 40 degrees centigrade.  I found this relieved some of the pain that I was going through, but mainly the physical discomfort.

Later on, when I found myself suffering deep emotional pain, due to personal problems, a colleague suggested meditation, advising me to “close my eyes and think of a place or something that makes you happy” and I did just that.

Whenever I felt unhappy or stressed I would close my eyes think of the one place that made me happy and where I felt at peace and stillness (image below)

It was at this point I realised how important yoga and meditation was for my wellbeing.  This wasn’t just about physical exercise – it had an impact on improving (and wanting to improve) my whole life and self.

I decided that I wanted to share with others what I had discovered.  I wanted to learn more about yoga and I wanted to teach yoga.

I left my job, took a break and went to India for a few weeks where I tried Ashtanga Yoga.  This helped to expand my knowledge of yoga and the various styles available, researching various training programs – but there were so many, it just left me confused.

And then one day I was looking through the channels on TV and I saw an advert for Dru Yoga – something about Dru Yoga resonated so deeply I made my decision to join the two year Dru Yoga teacher training course which I graduated from in 2013.  It was one of the best decisions I have ever made, as I loved every minute.

I have integrated everything I learnt on my course into my everyday life and my practice of yoga.  I have learnt a lot but still feel that this is only the beginning form me, so later this year I will start the two year Dru Meditation teacher training course.

I have come a long way over the last few years and my life has changed so much for the better.  Practising yoga has provided me with an outlet, a different perspective on life and improved my health.

I would love you to join me at my class so I can share this beautiful Lifestyle Dru with you.
